জানা গেছে, মঙ্গলবার সকাল সাড়ে দশটা নাগাদ সেলসম্যানের পরিচয় দিয়ে বাড়িতে আসে দুষ্কৃতীরা। কথা বলার আছিলায় কিছু বুঝে ওঠার আগেই বৃদ্ধ দম্পতিকে অচৈতন্য করে দেয় দুষ্কৃতীরা। অভিযোগ, দীপেন্দ্রনাথ ভট্টাচার্য ও তার স্ত্রীকে অচৈতন্য করে ঘরে থাকা সোনার অলঙ্কার লুট করে চম্পট দেয় দুষ্কৃতীরা। পরে চৈতন্য ফিরতেই দম্পতি প্রতিবেশী ও তাঁদের পরিজনদের বিষয়টি জানান।
এরপর শিলিগুড়ি থানার পুলিশকে ঘটনার খবর জানালে দুষ্কৃতীদের খোঁজে তল্লাশি শুরু করে পুলিশ। এদিকে বৃদ্ধ দম্পতির পরিজনদের দাবী, এই ঘটনাই প্রমান করছে শিলিগুড়ি শহরে বয়স্কদের নিরাপত্তা নেই। দ্রুত দুষ্কৃতীদের গ্রেপ্তার করার আবেদন জানিয়েছেন তাঁরা।
